Our company continues to make advances in reducing the use of raw materials throughout our processes. We strive to reduce waste before it is created. In 2006, we recycled more than 97 percent of all solid waste generated in our U.S. operations. At our breweries, the rate was even higher — these facilities recycled more than 99 percent of their solid waste generated.
Key Strategies:
- Actively commit to the business of recycling through Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation operations
- Participate in public educational campaigns and recycling efforts
Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation
Founded in 1978, the Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation (A-BRC) is among the largest recyclers of aluminum cans in the world. Through a widespread network of aluminum recycling suppliers, the company recycles more than 27 billion cans annually — more cans than our breweries package. In 2006, A-BRC recycled 803 million pounds (364,000 metric tons) of aluminum beverage containers.
A-BRC takes an active role in encouraging public aluminum can, glass and plastic bottle recycling. We partner with local recyclers and Anheuser-Busch distributors to promote event recycling at a variety of venues, including music festivals, beach venues, sports venues, golf tournaments and auto racing events. In 2006, A-BRC initiated recycling at more than 150 events. The goal is to keep recyclable beverage containers out of the waste stream and create a habit for event-goers to repeat at home. A-BRC partners with organizations like Keep America Beautiful, National Recycling Coalition, packaging material groups, as well as leading beverage producers from the beer, soft drink and water industry to increase beverage container recycling through innovative, comprehensive long-term solutions and partnerships. A-BRC also supports a vast network of more than 700 suppliers by providing recycling collection equipment and marketing tools such as radio, newspaper advertisements and local signage to encourage community recycling.

Purchasing Recycled Materials
Through our policies and purchasing decisions – and as a founding member of the U.S.-based Buy Recycled Business Alliance – Anheuser-Busch strives to stimulate viable markets for recycled materials. We spent more than $2 billion in 2006 buying products and materials containing more than 1 billion pounds of post-consumer material, including substantial amounts of packaging materials and recycled paper products, such as office supplies, towels and tissues. In 2006, the purchase of recycled forms and stock computer paper containing at least 10 percent post-consumer material amounted to about 1.25 million pounds (567 metric tons).
Recycling Programs
Recycling Awareness at Baldwinsville
Anheuser-Busch not only has recycling programs in place at work, but we also encourage employees to apply the same stewardship at home. To support this goal, the Baldwinsville, New York, Brewery provides employees with information about what material they can and should recycle, as well as techniques to cut down on personal waste. We encourage all employees and their families to join in the conservation effort.
Green Team Daytona
In 2006, Budweiser became the Official Beer of Daytona International Speedway under a new multi-year agreement. A-BRC has supported can recycling efforts at Daytona for several years and since 2005 has partnered with the Speedway to offer a comprehensive beverage container recycling program. More than 400 red Budweiser recycling containers are in place throughout the concourse, Fan Walk and corporate hospitality areas. In addition, aluminum cans and plastic bottles are collected from campground areas. A Budweiser Green Team assists Daytona personnel by increasing recycling awareness and rewarding race fans for good recycling behaviors.
