EHS Strategy for Continuous Improvement
Our companywide environmental, health and safety (EHS) performance improvement strategy focuses on these key elements:
- We will continue pursuing the facility-level goals established in conjunction with our companywide Senior Management Safety Challenge and embark on the next set of five-year environmental goals.
- To help ensure ample, high-quality and cost-effective resources, our company will continue to employ governance mechanisms to address key environmental aspects, such as our Water Council and Energy Council established in 2002 and 2005, respectively.
- We will continue to partner with business, governmental and other organizations and programs dedicated to EHS excellence, such as the National Safety Council and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise program.
- We will continue to partner with suppliers and wholesalers to improve safety and environmental performance.
- We are positioned to ensure compliance through regular EHS compliance audits and other assurance programs.
- With regard to new acquisitions, we will work with our companies to learn where opportunities for improvement exist, establish data collection systems and strengthen EHS management systems to ensure alignment with corporate standards.
- Finally, we are committed to investing in technology, process innovation and employee development to equip our employees with the skills and tools they need to meet EHS performance expectations.
Environmental and Energy Objectives
Within our operations, an innovative environmental and energy management strategy is in place for 2007 and beyond. In an effort to further reduce our environmental impacts, we have developed our next set of five-year conservation goals and added five-year goals for renewable fuels and greenhouse gas emissions. Our environmental and energy objectives include:
- Conducting a structured environmental risk and waste reduction assessment at each brewery to identify current impact and additional reduction opportunities;
- Developing a five-year strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and
- Evaluating and reducing the risk of climate change impacts on water supply in areas where we operate.
To support these objectives, we are implementing a sustainable energy strategy that encompasses:
- Conducting internal energy benchmarking and conservation initiatives;
- Reducing fossil fuel and energy use through capital projects and new technologies;
- Increasing our use of renewable fuels;
- Evaluating existing and alternative energy supply chain opportunities;
- Encouraging energy stewardship through practices and employee communication; and
- Partnering with external organizations to develop best practices and help define industry standards.
